Over the past several years, it’s been inspiring to see a growing number of women pursuing careers in technology and cybersecurity, including on our very own team at Cysiv. We have successful women working and pursuing innovation across the company and leading with excellence in our executive suite. I am proud of our strong female Cysivers, and we are fortunate to have each and every one of you.
However, there’s a long way yet to go for equal representation in technology and cybersecurity. It’s important to stop and celebrate achievements, but also to consider what steps can be taken to continue to close the gender gap. International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated every March 8th, provides the opportunity to do just that.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020, it will take another 99.5 years to attain gender parity. Part of the challenge, the report notes, is that women are underrepresented in frontier roles, including cloud computing, engineering, and data and AI. Only 12% of cloud computing professionals are women, for example. As Cysiv grows, I want to welcome more women and have even more representation, as you belong here at Cysiv and are essential to the company’s success.
This year’s IWD theme is #ChoosetoChallenge and it is fitting on many levels and also relevant to us at Cysiv as an early-stage / high-growth company. We must challenge the status quo every day in order to accelerate our continuous learning mindset, achieve breakthroughs as we prepare to scale, innovate in all areas of our business to solve customers' problems efficiently and effectively, and also reach deeper into the ways in which we think about and work with each other so that every Cysiver genuinely feels a sense of belonging here in the company; both during the good times and especially during the days when the journey gets tough as we grow. Using this same mindset, we can choose to challenge gender bias and inequality and take part in building an inclusive world.
With this in mind, I also want to reiterate that Cysiv is home to any person who is curious and passionate about technology and cybersecurity and who wants to win for our customers and our partners, win for our backers and supporters, and stand for the communities in which our already diverse and international staff represent. This is core to our values and applies regardless of your race or ethnicity, age, color, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, political beliefs, military service, physical abilities, passport, or any other differences between people.
Once again, a huge thank you to the incredible women forging innovation through technology, including all of the talented and inspiring women on our team.
Happy International Women’s Day!
